Happy New Year! The start of a new year is a time for reflecting on the past and setting goals for the future – personally and professionally.
As an HR professional, you play a key role in helping your company achieve its goals as you are responsible for managing its most important asset. When you look back on 2018, take a close look at what you would have done differently. Solicit feedback from your colleagues on areas where they see room for improvement. Evaluate existing HR solutions to ensure you getting the most from your investment and, if not, do some research as there are a lot of options available!
Here are a few suggestions to help you start your 2019 goal setting:
Offer strong onboarding and training programs
If you hired new employees in 2018, make sure you talk to them about their onboarding and training experiences. These two functions have a direct impact on employee retention. Gathering feedback and making improvements based on that input demonstrates your commitment to providing new hires and long-time employees with opportunities for professional development.
Recognize the value of incentives
How would you describe the level of engagement across your company? Were there peaks and valleys to productivity? Was morale pretty good or is there room for improvement?
If you turn up enough evidence to suggest a downward trend in employee morale, commitment or engagement, you might want to consider implementing a rewards and recognition program. Incentives will vary by company (you may even want to survey your employees on what they would like the most) and can be simple: a day off for volunteering, free snacks, or a small gift card.
