When the COVID-19 crisis threatened the livelihood of PeopleStrategy client, Gargiulo Produce, the company got creative. The food service distributor based in Hillside, NJ, joined forces with Boxcar, a software company that helps commuters with parking and bus services, to get much-needed groceries to customers while keeping their businesses going at the same time.
Gargiulo and Boxcar launched a “touchless” grocery service that allows customers to avoid putting on a mask and gloves, or waiting in long lines, to get staple grocery supplies such as milk, eggs and fresh fruits and vegetables. The grocery boxes can be delivered to a customer’s car or home, or they offer a curbside pick-up. Customers can even order “themed” boxes like a Breakfast Box, Taco Box or Cocktail Box.
Get a Box, Give a Box Program
Gargiulo recently launched the Get a Box, Give a Box program to provide front line healthcare workers at two local hospitals with boxes of mixed produce to bring home to their families.
“Our healthcare workers are making a big sacrifice throughout this crisis,” said Melissa Gargiulo. “But so are their families. This was one way we thought we could show our gratitude for our essential workers and those who support them.”
